The Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox is embarking on a demanding 135-mile journey for Children in Need. Starting today, Monday, November 10, she will cover the distance on foot over five days.
Sara's challenge, named the "Great Northern Marathon Challenge," begins in Kielder Forest near the Scottish border and finishes in Pudsey, Leeds, on Friday, November 14. During the course, she will travel through four counties:
Her mission is to deliver the iconic Pudsey bear to Pudsey itself, carrying it throughout the entire route.
Sara follows in the footsteps of Radio 2 colleague Paddy McGuinness, who last year raised £10 million after completing a tough cycling fundraiser for Children in Need. Unlike Paddy, Sara will cover her challenge on foot, running, jogging, and walking a total of 135 miles.
“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”
Sara aims to complete the grueling course in time for the live Children in Need broadcast to inspire viewers and encourage donations.
