A woman and a young child tragically lost their lives after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong.
Authorities believe the mother went into the water to rescue the child but began to struggle herself. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find both individuals unconscious in the water.
Paramedics performed CPR on both victims, but despite their efforts, neither could be revived. The woman and child were declared dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that neither the woman nor the child have been formally identified. A report is being prepared for the coroner to determine the circumstances of the accident.
