Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu is embracing a new chapter with her shortest haircut in years, sporting a sleek lob for her leading role in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The actress, known for her work in Charlie's Angels, revealed the fresh look in the film’s trailer, where she appears with a side-part lob that falls just above her collarbone.

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is set for a theatrical release on December 5. The story follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life after his schizophrenia diagnosis. The plot is adapted from a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled “A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”

Departing from her more lighthearted and action-packed roles in series and films like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill, Liu takes on a darker, emotionally complex story in this new role.

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety about the film. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

During the film’s Tribeca premiere, Liu shared with Parade that she was drawn to projects exploring human complexity and emotional depth, further highlighting her evolving acting choices.
