The Supreme Court has issued a notice to cricketer Mohammed Shami after his estranged wife requested an increase in interim maintenance payments for herself and their daughter.
Shami's wife claims the current payments are insufficient and demands Rs 7 lakh per month for herself and Rs 3 lakh per month for their daughter. She describes the existing amounts as “grossly inadequate” considering Shami’s financial status and lifestyle.
The case follows a domestic violence complaint filed in 2018 and prior orders from the Calcutta High Court related to maintenance and arrears.

A bench led by Justices Manoj Misra and Ujjal Bhuyan has asked Shami to respond to the plea challenging the Calcutta High Court's orders from July 1 and August 25.
The plea notes Shami’s annual income as nearly Rs 48 crore for the year 2021-22, while his wife reportedly struggles with basic expenses under “downtrodden conditions.”
She contends the amounts are “grossly inadequate,” given his financial standing and “lavish lifestyle.”
