Cherif, an Algerian national, was believed to have connections to Tower Hamlets and frequently visited the Westminster area. On Friday, 7 November, at 11:23 am, a member of the public reported seeing a man matching Cherif's description near Capital City College on Blackstock Road in Islington.
A Met Police spokesperson stated: "Officers responded immediately and at 11:30 am detained a man matching Cherif's description. His identity was confirmed and he was arrested for being unlawfully at large."
In addition, Cherif was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker in connection with a previous unrelated incident. He is currently in police custody, and the Prison Service has been informed.
