Photo Focus: Halloween Celebration on St. John

On St. John, children enjoyed a plentiful Halloween with lots of candy at popular locations like Mongoose Junction and the Trunk-or-Treat event in the gravel lot at Cruz Bay.

Mongoose Junction Festivities

Parents closely accompanied their kids as they descended the main staircase at Mongoose Junction. There, they met Raven Phillips of Bajo El Sol, who handed out candy to children including Curious George (Finn) and his mother, Willow Melamet.

“Those who arrived before 5 p.m. received free books from the Little Free Library,” noted Jeannie Bishop, who was distributing books alongside Phillips.

A young fisherman was drawn to a table filled with books, while Janet Cook-Rutnik, dressed as a character from one of her favorite Eric Carle books, also helped with the book distribution.

Photographer Yelena Rogers, with her dog, posed for a photo as they left Mongoose Junction.

Trunk-or-Treat Event at Cruz Bay

As daylight faded, most trick-or-treaters headed to the gravel lot for the Trunk-or-Treat event. Adults decorated their car trunks with spooky displays, including a memorable tableau created by Jennifer Costanzo and Tessa Chilson of Moms Who Trunk.

“The creative trunks added a fun and eerie atmosphere for the kids to enjoy,” said a local participant.

The event brought the community together, combining traditional trick-or-treating with imaginative decorations.

Author’s summary: St. John's Halloween featured candy, free books, and creative trunk displays, creating a festive and community-centered celebration for children and families.
