AFLW: Biddell reflects on road to 75 games as Crows eye finals success

AFLW: Chelsea Biddell Reflects on Milestone and Leadership

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell is set to reach a significant milestone, playing her 75th AFLW game in the Crows’ elimination final against St Kilda. At 27, Biddell has grown into a respected leader both on and off the field.

Embracing Leadership

Leadership did not come naturally to Biddell initially, but her development over several years has shaped her into a key voice within the team. Early in the 2025 season, she was voted into the leadership group for the first time—a recognition she values greatly.

“That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice,” Biddell said.

She explained that leadership is a skill she actively worked on as she gained more consistent playing time, focusing on guiding her teammates and improving her communication.

“I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players. In terms of on the field, I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just developing that voice and communication that I really had to build on.”

Journey to 75 Games

Biddell’s path to becoming a mainstay in the Crows’ defense wasn’t without challenges. Drafted as a forward in the 2019 AFLW Draft, she struggled to consistently secure a spot in a strong Adelaide side. A positional switch from forward to defender in 2022 proved pivotal for her career.
