Despite the poor box office performance of The Marvels, Brie Larson may be reprising her role as Captain Marvel in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. This contradicts earlier reports suggesting she would not return to the MCU as Carol Danvers.
Larson was recently seen on her Instagram story voting in the Statewide Special Election, wearing an item resembling Captain Marvel’s winged costume piece. Fans have interpreted this as a hint that Larson's character is being reintroduced at the last minute in Avengers: Doomsday.
While Larson is seemingly welcomed back despite The Marvels underperforming, some other MCU characters, like those from Eternals, remain absent from upcoming projects.
"Since it was just after the release of Endgame, it had a free rein to experiment with what could and couldn’t stick for the superhero ensemble." – Chloé Zhao, Vanity Fair
Despite previous claims, Brie Larson is likely returning as Captain Marvel in Avengers: Doomsday, highlighting a stark contrast with the sidelining of other MCU characters like those from Eternals after the latter’s disappointing reception.
