Georgia Southern Tops App State 25–23

Georgia Southern earned their first road victory of the season on Thursday, defeating Appalachian State 25–23 in the intense “Deeper Than Hate” rivalry matchup.

Offensive Highlights

Quarterback JC French IV delivered his best performance of the season, throwing for 352 yards and scoring twice — one through the air and another on the ground in the second half.

“The O-line did an amazing job today protecting me and the receivers making plays. I probably could have had 450 if I just put it on the money.”

Running back OJ Arnold added 105 rushing yards, sealing the victory with key runs late in the game.

Strong Defensive Play

The Eagles defense contained Sun Belt rushing leader Rashod Dubinion to only 40 yards on 12 carries, allowing just 77 total rushing yards — their best defensive effort of the season.

Kicker Makes the Difference

Freshman kicker Tripp Bryant proved crucial, connecting on four of five field goals from 21, 26, 23, and 24 yards. His final kick early in the fourth quarter gave Georgia Southern a 25–16 advantage that held to the end.

Bryant’s leg proved to be the difference on a cold night in hostile territory.

With this win, Georgia Southern improved to 4–5 and moved within two victories of bowl eligibility.

Author’s Summary

Georgia Southern secured a gritty road win over App State, driven by JC French’s sharp passing, OJ Arnold’s timely runs, and Tripp Bryant’s clutch kicking.
