Witkoff: Hamas Prepared to Surrender Weapons to International Force
Steve Witkoff, U.S. envoy, stated at the America Business Forum in Miami that the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas is willing to surrender its weapons to an international security force in the Gaza Strip.
He mentioned that Washington is pressuring Israel to permit militants trapped in Rafah, southern Gaza, to exit the area.
"Hamas has always made it clear that it is ready to hand over its weapons," Witkoff said, referring to conversations even with Jared Kushner, advisor to President Donald Trump.
Witkoff expressed hope that Hamas will honor this commitment, adding:
"If it does, it will realize that the development plan we have for Gaza is truly extraordinary, much better than what was proposed in the past."
The initiative includes a significant job creation program designed to improve conditions in Gaza.
