After releasing her new album Lux, Spanish pop artist Rosalía spoke about meeting her musical hero, Patti Smith, describing the encounter as “beautiful.” The two met at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York, a place deeply connected with Smith’s own creative history.
One of the new tracks on Lux, titled La Yagular, includes a historic recording from a 1976 Patti Smith interview where she said:
“Break on through to the other side. Going through one door isn’t enough, a million doors aren’t enough.”
During an interview on BBC 6 Music with Nick Grimshaw, Rosalía explained that their introduction happened through Lee Foster, who manages Electric Lady Studios. She said Foster thought they should meet, and so the special encounter was arranged.
Rosalía recalled the emotional moment:
“I remember walking down the stairs wearing a white dress, thinking, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to make Patti Smith wait!’ When I arrived, she had such light in her face, in her eyes, in her smile. She said, ‘I love your dress,’ and we began talking about the song. Meeting her was one of the most beautiful moments because I truly admire her.”
Author’s summary: Rosalía cherished her meeting with Patti Smith at Electric Lady Studios, calling it a beautiful experience that merged admiration, shared artistry, and mutual inspiration.
