The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to gauge interest in forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. Robertson has played on various lines this season, while Kampf has spent most of his time in the AHL.
Robertson has recorded two goals and four points across ten games. His role has fluctuated, appearing on the first line and being a healthy scratch at times. He logged a season-high 17:22 of ice time in Wednesday’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, skating alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann, as William Nylander missed the game due to injury.
Kampf was placed on waivers before the season began and currently has one assist in four games with the Toronto Marlies. His contract carries a cap hit of $2.4 million through next season, with $1.25 million counting against Toronto’s cap while he remains in the AHL.
“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson,” Dreger said Thursday on Insider Trading. “For Kampf, who’s in the American Hockey League, it’s more about clearing salary. For Robertson, he’s shown flashes as both a bottom- and top-six forward, and the Leafs aren’t rushing to move him unless a comparable young player is available in return.”
The Maple Leafs are reportedly patient regarding Robertson’s future, considering trade options only if the offer matches their long-term goals and roster needs.
Author’s summary: Toronto is carefully assessing offers for forwards Robertson and Kampf, balancing cap space needs with player development and trade value.
