The White House will reveal on Thursday that an additional nation is set to establish diplomatic relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords, according to Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Witkoff stated:
“I'm flying back to Washington tonight because we're going to announce, tonight, another country coming into the Abraham Accords.”
During President Trump's first term, several Arab countries normalized relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords in 2020. This agreement marked a significant shift in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
The accords have contributed to the growing isolation and weakening of the Palestinians by breaking a long-held Arab consensus—that recognition of Israel should only occur after progress in the peace process. Palestinians, enduring Israeli occupation for years, view these agreements as a betrayal by Arab nations who had promised to support Palestinian independence and pressure Israel to withdraw from territories captured after 1948.
Summary: The White House plans to announce a new country joining the Abraham Accords, deepening diplomatic ties with Israel and further impacting the long-standing Middle Eastern peace dynamics.
