Manchester United prospect James Overy has been selected for Australia's squad for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Venezuela. The 17-year-old full back, who joined United's academy last year, has yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club but featured in Australia's under-20 World Cup squad.
Overy, born in Perth, is one of seven uncapped players named in the 26-man squad announced Friday. Coach Tony Popovic aims to strengthen team depth ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.
“Germany-based Irvine returns to the squad for the first time in eight months after a long lay-off from foot surgery and a recent quadriceps setback.”
Midfielders Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree are also back from injury, boosting the squad ahead of the November friendlies against Venezuela in Houston on November 14 and World Cup-bound Colombia in New York on November 18.
Young talents including James Overy and several uncapped players join an evolving Socceroos squad as Tony Popovic prepares for crucial friendlies ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
