SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and previously the Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was sustained and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday.
At 62 years old, Elder Caussé was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with the First Presidency and other Apostles. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the Church’s second-highest governing body, with members serving as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and managing the Church’s worldwide affairs.
"I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said. "And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ."
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé relocated to Paris at 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation Church members. They married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.
Elder Caussé has been a member of the Presiding Bishopric since 2012. Before that, from 2008 to 2012, he served as a General Authority Seventy. Throughout his ministry, he has been a strong advocate for compassionate care and has emphasized the significance of nurturing the Church's youth.
