Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Notice a Troubling Change
A recent survey by the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association found that 85% of respondents felt their reporting was held to a "higher standard of neutrality".
The survey, which included about 70 people working in American newsrooms, was conducted by AMEJA and revealed that journalists of Middle Eastern and North African descent faced increased scrutiny since October 2023, when Israel's military campaign in Gaza began.
"We put together a survey because, as journalists, we always try to uncover the truth,"said Aymann Ismail, president of AMEJA and staff writer at Slate.
AMEJA published the survey results as the ceasefire took effect, prompting reflection on press coverage of the war.
