‘Jasprit Bumrah is slightly wayward when desperate’: Former India World Cup winner’s bold claim after MCG T20I

Jasprit Bumrah under scrutiny after MCG T20I

India’s defeat against Australia in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground brought Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling under the spotlight. Despite taking two wickets for just 26 runs in four overs, former India batter Robin Uthappa felt Bumrah lost his usual precision when the team struggled after posting only 125 runs.

“When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first few overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward,” said Uthappa on Star Sports.
“I have observed that whenever Bumrah gets desperate to pick up wickets, he becomes slightly wayward, and when he maintains discipline with his line and length, he usually finds success. Australia took full advantage of that at the start of the second innings,” he added.

The 2007 World Cup winner also criticized India’s weak batting effort, noting that only Abhishek Sharma’s half-century and Harshit Rana’s short cameo stood out in an otherwise disappointing performance.

Author’s Summary
