"Slightly Wayward": Jasprit Bumrah Receives 'Desperate' Verdict After Loss Against Australia | Cricket News

Slightly Wayward: Jasprit Bumrah's Performance Against Australia

Former Indian cricket batter Robin Uthappa shared his views on star pacer Jasprit Bumrah's bowling during the second T20I against Australia on Friday. Bumrah ended with figures of 2/26 but struggled to claim wickets in his initial three overs. India, dismissed for 125, needed early breakthroughs from Bumrah to stay competitive.

Uthappa noted that Bumrah tends to become slightly "wayward" when he gets too eager for wickets. This loss of discipline allowed Australian batters to capitalize early in the innings.

“I have observed that whenever Bumrah gets desperate to pick up wickets, he becomes slightly wayward. When he is disciplined and hits a good line and length, he mostly picks up wickets.”

The Australian opening partnership of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh set a strong foundation, helping Australia chase down the target comfortably with 40 balls remaining, despite losing a few wickets later on.

“Australia took full advantage of that waywardness at the start,” Uthappa said on Star Sports.
“When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important.”

Summary

Uthappa highlights that Bumrah’s effectiveness depends on his discipline, as desperation for wickets can lead to inconsistent bowling that opponents exploit.
